Download: view IIIF manifest
Description
Handwritten letter on headed paper, addressed from the Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin, in which Orpen writes that he organised a lunch party and invited his mother, Mossie, Charlie and Richard. Violet 'would not lunch as she said Richard [Shepherd Fletcher] would be angry!!!' The lunch guests viewed a painting by Orpen and found it pleasing, 'a great success.' Orpen also writes that he has visited Clonsilla to work on a painting of a child, and relates that it is 'not bad considering the difficulty of painting a child of that age.' He concludes with news of his students and anatomy classes. [Clonsilla may refer to the residence of Mrs. St. George , with whom Orpen had a lengthy relationship, and for whom he painted annual portraits of her daughter Gardenia St. George]
