Description
Handwritten letter on lined paper in which Orpen writes of 'Lawson' that 'he is a nice man, but not to my mind particularly interesting, he must appeal in a different way to ladies if he is such a killer of such as one hears…' Orpen relates that he is to attend a play by Lady Gregory but that 'I hear the same is very bad...' He notes that Richard [Shepherd Fletcher?] 'hob-nobbs with William Butler Yeats, and Gregory...' Orpen concludes by stating that he is working on a portrait of [Howard] St. George, and will need another sitting to finish it. Mrs St. George has a bad lung and is in the South of Ireland at present. Letter concludes with a pen sketch of Orpen standing in a snowy landscape, wearing a heavy overcoat and hat, and is captioned as 'Ireland. Dec. 1906.
