Description
Manuscript letter from Ruskin at Herne Hill, London, UK to Burton regarding a painting by Vivanini and also about the Turner bequest to the National Gallery (UK). Ruskin writes that “The new Turner arrangements are as good as can be in the architectural conditions – But what the English people is at heart, could not be better demonstrated/It can find palaces for any quantity of horses and harlots: - but for its Turner drawings all England can grant is a cellar, looking out on a dead wall.”
