Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 4th June 1971 in which the following was discussed: the death of Sir Alec Martin was announced, who had been a board member for almost 60 years. The Director reported on the press conference held for hearing the annual report of the Gallery. A letter was received from R. Kerr-Ritchie offering 200,000 photographs to the Gallery. The Director was instructed to investigate further. The following purchases were approved; "Death of the Queen" by R. Moynan [NGI 4028], "Portrait of Thomas MacGreevy" by George Collie [NGI 4029], "Well of the Saints" or "Holy Well" by William Orpen [NGI 4030], "Portrait of a Man" by Sampson Towgood Roch [NGI 7376]. "No Flowers" by Jack B. Yeats [NGI 4031] and "Portrait of Violet Osborne" by John Butler Yeats [NGI 4032] were both accepted as gifts. The board agreed to four requests for loans, and an exhibition celebrating the bicentenary of the Richmon Hospital was approved to be held in the Gallery. Two other function requests were approved. Mr Terence De Vere White was appointed as a representative of the board on the Taylor Art Committee. The board were unable to grant a request from An Comhairle Ealaion to place a collection box in the Gallery. Approval was given for the reproduction of the Mackinnon Family by Hogarth for the UNICEF calendar for the following year. The Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund were discussed.
