Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd October 1964 in which the following was discussed: the board expressed their pleasure with the progress made by the architects in regards to the Gallery extension. The board chose to reconsider their previous decision and agreed to lend the portraits of Lord Edward and Lady Pamela Fitzgerald to Leinster House for a period of 5 years. The Wildenstein Gallery requested the loan of two pictures, one of which was granted by the board. The Irish Embassy in Washington requested the loan of 5 pictures to display, which was also granted. Count Labia offered to loan the Robinson Collection to the Gallery, and the Director was instructed to make further enquiries. "Going to Wolfe Tone's Grave" by Jack B. Yeats was declined for purchase. "Portrait of Professor Mahaffy" by Sarah Cecilia Harrison was provisionally approved for purchase, to be confirmed at the next meeting. The Director had approached the Minister for Education with the intent of getting a grant of £6000 per annum to establish a Department of Conservation within the Gallery. It was proposed to employ a graduate to compile a catalogue of the entire Gallery, which was approved by the board. The board heard comments on the Shaw Fund and the Lane Fund. It was agreed to close the Whitin Fund which was now empty. It was agreed that the position of doorman of the Gallery be made a senior attendant's post.
