Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd April 1947 in which the following was discussed: the Director received official confirmation of the grant of £3000 for the purchase and repair of paintings, and increase of the previous year's £2000. The Minister for Education had reappointed Mr John Burke to the board for a further 5 years. The Director submitted the audited account for the Lane Fund, which was approved. A portrait of Richard Talbot, Duke of Tyrconnell was approved for purchase [NGI 1138]. The gift of two watercolours by Sir Thomas Jones was gratefully accepted. The purchase of "Madonna and Child" by Lorenzo di Credi was provisionally approved for purchase, to be confirmed at the next meeting [NGI 1140]. A picture by Jacopo (Francesco) Bassano was accepted as a gift [NGI 1141]. The purchase of a painting by Lady Butler, "An Irish Eviction" was declined. Dr P.T. Hernon, City Manager and Town Clerk, enquired if the picture "A Liffey Swim" by Jack B. Yeats, currently on loan to the Dublin Municipal Gallery, could be included in a loan with other pictures from the Municipal Gallery for an exhibition in London, which was approved by the board. The Director commented on the state of the Lane Fund.
