Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd June 1943 in which the following was discussed: the board appointed Mr James S. Sleator to act as judge for the Taylor Art Scholarship for 1944, with Dr. George Furlong appointed as alternative judge for 1944. Jack B. Yeats was appointed as an alternative judge for 1943. Seven paintings were declined for purchase. The Director was instructed to purchase "Portrait of a Diplomat" by G.M. Gesli. A sketch for G.B. Shaw's "Fanny's First Play" was accepted as a gift but suggested that it should be lent to the National Library. The Gallery Library was presented with a gift from the Polish Consul General of a volume of "Polish Painting" by Henry Gotlib. The gift of a portrait of Colonel Francis MacNamara was accepted with thanks, it currently being held in London. The Director reported on the credit of the Lane Fund.
