Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 5th October 1938 in which the following was discussed: Lucius O'Callaghan appointed to the board by the Department of Education. It was reported a picture, "Thetis and Peleus" by Poussin had been lost while on loan to the exhibition Chefs d'Oeuvre de l'Art Francais. It was agreed to accept the sum of £100 but to 'arrange for the return of drawing if it could be found'. Discussion about the will of Miss Kathleen Ffrench, the judge had decided not to make any orders at present. The offer of a self-portrait by Nathaniel Hone as gift from Alec Martin gratefully accepted. A "Portrait of an Old Lady" by JB Yeats [NGI 1004 Portrait of Miss K. Leney] bequeathed by the late Kate Leney accepted. The Director submitted a request from the Keeper of the Art Section in the National Museum for a loan of cases formerly used for the exhibition of the Milltown Collection. It was granted. An offer as a gift of "The Wailing Wall" by Emily Sergent [NGI 6075] through the Friends of the Irish National Collections was accepted. An offer of a Honthorst for £80 was offered by Isaac Levi.
