Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 5th February 1941 in which the following was discussed: Mr Justice Murnaghan read a report with recommendations on the hanging of Irish pictures in the Gallery. The Director's annual report for 1940 was read and approved. Lord Longford and Dermod O'Brien were reappointed auditors of the Lane Fund. "Morning in the City" by J.B. Yeats had been purchased for the Gallery [NGI 1050]. The Director had received a request for a list of any items in the collection that might be suitable for a proposed Easter week 1916 exhibition in the National Museum, and he was instructed to lend any suitable pictures. The purchase of a portrait of James Joyce was approved [NGI 1051]. The purchase of a portrait of James Stephens by Sir William Rothenstein was declined. The purchase of eight picture cases was approved for under £20. The Director reported on the credit of the Lane Fund.
