Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd October 1940 in which the following was discussed: a list of 24 portraits which were to be transferred to the vaults of the Bank of Ireland. The Director received a letter from the Department of Industry and Commerce in relation to the painting of Dr Douglas Hyde which was curently on loan at the World's Fair in New York, in which they proposed safe-keeping arrangements that the board agreed to. The Director reported that the investment changes of the Lane Fund had taken place, and the board discussed the payment of dividends in relation to these. A portrait of W.B. Yeats was declined for purchase. A gift from Mr P. Higgins of a picture of "Jupiter and Ganymede" by Nicolaes van Helt Stockade was accepted [NGI 1046]. The Director was instructed to purchase "Portrait of a Lady" and "Portrait of a Gentleman" by Jacob Gerritsz Cuyp [NGI 1047-1048]. A gift of the picture "Pera visiting her father in prision" from the Dutch School, was declined. The Director commented on the credit of the Lane Fund.
