Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 3rd October 1928 in which the following was discussed: the Rt. Hon. Jonathan Hogg was re-appointed to the board. The Director reported on the passage of The National Gallery of Ireland Bill, and they decided to avail of said Act by offering a loan of certain autographs to the National Library of Ireland. Further arrangements were made regarding the exhibition of acquisitions made by the Gallery in the year 1927-1928. The Director was authorised to attend the sale of The Six Collection in Amsterdam (catalogue held in the library "Tableaux de la Collection-Six / Frederik Muller & Cie.; direction Ant. W. M. Mensing"] as well as the sale of the Marczell de Nemes Collection, and was instructed to make purchases as long as they were under a certain limit. The purchase of a picture by George Barratt was refused. Portraits of the late President Griffiths and General Michael Collins were refused for purchase. A gift of a portrait of Father Dineen by J.B. Yeats was accepted [NGI 910]. A picture of the Pentecost was refused for purchase. The gift of a portrait of Bergliot Ibsen was accepted [NGI 908]. The Director reported on the state of the Lane Fund.
