Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 4th April 1928 in which the following was discussed: the audited accounts of the Lane Fund were submitted and adopted. The offer of a loan of an Early French picture for one year from Mr Justice Murnaghan was accepted. The Director was instructed to write to the Department of Finance regarding the passing of legislation that would allow the Gallery to lend pictures. A pair of portraits by Jacob Willemsz Delff were declined. A picture by Auguste Charpentier was declined for purchase. A portrait of a Princess of the House of Austria by Jakob Seisenegger, later attributed to Giuseppe Arcimboldi, was approved for purchase [NGI 902]. A portrait of an old lady by a Flemish master was also approved for purchase [NGI 903]. "Christ Carrying His Cross" by Rubens was declined for purchase. Four landscape paintings were declined for purchase. The Director enquired to the board as to what his attitude should be in regards to the purchase and recommendation of pictures to the board, which was then clarified by the board, and they expressed their trust in the judgement and discretion of the Director. A miniature by Abraham Begeyn was refused. The purchase of "A Winter Landscape" by Claes Jacobsz van der Heck was approved [NGI 904]. A drawing by Leendert de Koningh was also approved for purchase [NGI 2841]. The Director reported on correspondence in relation to the will of the late William Wallace Anderson. A picture by Hans Baldung Grien was declined for purchase. The Director reported on the state of the Lane Fund.
