Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 7th April 1926 in which the following was discussed: Professor Sydney Young [served on NGI board 1921 to 1926] pointed out to the board that as his term as President of the Royal Irish Academy had come to an end, he was no longer an ex-officio member of the board. A letter was recieved by the Ministry of Finance in regards to the estimates for the upcoming year. A letter was also received from the Department of Finance regarding investments of the Lane Fund. A letter was read from Miss Purser requesting the use of the sculpture hall for an exhibition of etchings and paintings of the late Percy Gethin [1874 to 1916], which was granted under certain conditions [Gethin was an Irish born, British army officer, killed in World War One, 1916 in France. The artworks in the gallery by the artist comprise of: NGI 11619, NGI 11428, NGI 11429, NGI 11480 and NGI 11869]. The report from the Lane Fund auditors for 1925 was received and adopted. A death mask of J.B. Yeats was offered and accepted [NGI 8194]. A picture "Madonna and Child" from the Early Italian school, was approved for purchase [NGI 868]. The Director noted that Mr Alec Martin is attempting to procure drawings by H.B. Brabazon for the Gallery. An anonymous complaint was received in regards to an attendant of the Gallery.
