Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 3rd June 1925 in which the following was discussed: The Royal Hibernian Academy had nominated Oliver Sheppard to the board [until 1941]. A letter was received from the Ministry of Finance in relation to import duties. The Gallery was offered the picture "The John Watson" by Catterson-Smith on loan, but had to decline due to lack of suitable accomodation space. The Gallery was notified of the upcoming sale of a portrait of George Romney by Martin Archer Shee in London but declined to take any further action. A sub-committee was appointed to deal with the publication of photographs of pictures in the Gallery. Drawings by J.B. Yeats were offered for purchase by Miss Yeats but were declined as the board did not think them to be the best examples of his work. Two death masks and a drawing were offered from the collection of the late Dr Sigerson by Mrs H. Piatt, and acceted [NGI 2751, NGI 8131 and NGI 8155]. A gift of a drawing by Pietro da Cortona, later attributed to Giuseppe Passeri, was accepted [NGI 2750]. A portrait of William Allingham by Helen Allingham was also accepted [NGI 2749]. The board accepted a miniature by Miss A. Marjorie Robinson. They also accepted the portrait of John D'Alton [NGI 2748]. Mr Dermod O'Brien made a statement regarding the Hone bequest.
