Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 4th February 1924 in which the following was discussed: the University of North Wales requested the loan of any pictures by R. Wilson for an upcoming exhibition, which was granted. The Director submitted his annual report which was approved, along with the estimates for the year. Auditors for the Lane Fund accounts were appointed. Mrs Charles H. Hone presented the board with six miniatures by Horace Hone and three mezzotints after Nathanel Hone [NGI 10933, NGI 11387 and NGI 11414], which were accepted. A portrait of the Venetian School offered by the executors of the late Sir Claude Phillips was accepted [NGI 860]. The board received a letter from Captain Langton Douglas offering four pictures for sale, with three being purchased, namely, " An Actor between the Muses of Tragedy and Comedy" and "Portrait of Two Children" both by T. Hickey, and "A Sick Call" by Matthew James Lawless [NGI 862-864]. The discussion regarding an offer of purchasing an Andrea di Giusti piece was postponed. Two drawings by J.B. Yeats were refused, along with a portrait by Abbott, but authorised the purchase of Charles Brooking's "Sea piece" ["Dutch Men-of-War at Sea" NGI 237].
