Minutes of a board meeting held on 2nd July 1924 in which the following was discussed: certain pictures and miniatures had been offered to the Gallery on loan from Miss Alexander's estate, which the board accepted. A picture "Cheyne Walk, Chelsea" was offered to the Gallery in memory of Sir Hugh Lane and accepted by the board [NGI 854]. The Director informed the board of a painting that was soon to be sold at auction in London, and he was given permission to bid up to the sum of £1800 for it. Two pictures were offered on loan to the Gallery by Mr Dermod O'Brien; a portrait of the first president of the Royal Hibernian Academy, W.M. Ashford, and a landscape painting by him, which the board accepted. Permission was granted for the Gallery to be closed for cleaning and rehanging during the month of October.
