Minutes of a board meeting held on 6th April 1923 in which the following was discussed: the Director submitted a statement in regards to his trip to America at the beginning of the year, in which he defends his actions in going without the explicit permission of the board, as he was there to make an appeal to wealthy Irishmen and gather funds or paintings for the Gallery, but by doing so and missing a statuatory board meeting, he broke byelaws of the Gallery. The board's reaction to this trip was discussed in the previous meeting, but this meeting was disregarded due to a lack of a quorum. A watercolour by Edward Hayes was presented to the board and accepted [NGI 2728]. A portrait of W.B. Yeats by Wiliam Strang was also accepted [NGI 2729]. The Director stated that original sketches of the Parnell Commission by Sydney P. Hall were on offer to the Gallery but due to the disturbed state of the country, the donor was delaying the donation.
