Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 4th April 1917 in which the following was discussed: the executors of the Lane bequest are authorised to pay the Red Cross Society a sum of £10,000, and the board instruct the executors to insure Mr John Sargent's life for one year, at the sum of £5,000 so he can complete his comission. More decisions are made in regards to the bequest left to the Gallery by Hugh Lane. The Director [Robert Langton Douglas] was given a further leave of three months so that he can continue his wartime military duties. A portrait of Mr W.B. Yeats by his father was considered by the board and approved for purchase. The decision was taken to dismiss William Moore, an attendant in the Gallery.
