Description
Handwritten letter with envelope from Hugh Lane to Sarah Cecilia Harrison of 14 North Frederick St, Dublin, writing that he is sorry she will not spend the £50, as it would help her begin the 'Kelly portrait' sooner. Lane discusses buying a silver cup for his aunt Lady Gregory as surprise. Lady Gregory had stated publicly that as his aunt she wishes Lane to 'give up' the Municipal Gallery project but as a 'Patriotic Irishwoman' she wishes the pictures to stay in Dublin. Dr Purser has investigated the fumes rising from the Liffey and has assured Lane that they would dissolve before reaching the pictures if the gallery were to be built upon it.
