Description
Manuscript letter on headed paper, addressed from Connor's studio at 302 New Jersey Avenue S.E., Washington, D.C. to Tuite explaining that his absence has not been caused by "getting cold feet, mad, or neutral" but rather on account of his travel for business, stating that he has finished a life-sized bust of Robert Emmet, a small medallion, and a brand new sketch "embodying information I received from Dr. [Thomas Addis] Emmet." Connor hopes to be back in New York by Labor Day. Connor remarks that large orders of "riot shrapnel" have been placed by England with US manufacturers for use in Ireland and India. From this, Connor concludes "they must be getting ready for conscription in Ireland." Connor feels that "Wall [Street] wants war with Germany but Congress wants it with England."
